TV Tax

Tonight my TV Tax expires and after a little research I have discovered that it is easier than ever to legally avoid wasting £145.50.

You only need to pay TV Tax if you watch or record TV as its being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder.

If you plug your TV directly into the Internet and only use it to watch On Demand programs and Films and do not connect to an Ariel, cable or satellite connection, you do not need to pay the TV Tax.

You can fill out a simple form, which takes about 2 minutes to opt out of the TV Tax. See link bellow.

My Question to Croydon Council 28/01/2013

Why is the National Front website blocked by Croydon Library computers?  Who is responsible for blocking websites? And when will Croydon residents be able to view the websites of all registered political parties on Library computers?

Answer provided by Cllr Tim Pollard

Croydon libraries' public access internet is provided via the London Grid for learning (LGfL) neywork and is subject to their acceptable use policy and filtering software. This filtering software checks a large database of website addresses (URLs) which have been categorised according to their content. A large number of websites, too numerous to list, are blocked because their content is violent, sexually explicit, racist, terrorist, or inappropriate for use in public space.
It is possible to re-categorise a website at. A local level but any decision must be made against the criteria above and not contravene the LGfL acceptable use policy.
The request to unblock the National Front website has been considered. The site falls under the LGfL category of "racism and hatred" which is why it is blocked.

Supplementary question by myself

The National Front is a registered political party, not a hate group.

Why has the Council not blocked Page 3 of the Sun, Hizb ut-Tahriri, the Communist Party or other racial interest parties, like Operation Black Vote?

Why are LGfL denying blocking the National Front website?

If you can’t agree who is to blame for blocking the National Front website, how disorganised will libraries be when they are fully privatised?

Cllr Pollard refused to answer the Supplementary   question but Cllr Stuart Collins (lab) went on to say that he does not agree with the blocking of the NF website and that Nick Griffin on Question Time did more damage to the far right than the left had ever done.

Question for Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe

On Wednesday 23^rd Jan, a number of nationalists attended a public meeting with Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe at Croydon College. Surprisingly I was allowed to ask him a question.

 Question

Why are racially motivated crimes against white people not taken as seriously as those committed against other ethnic minorities?

I know the commissioner will try to deny this, so I have a couple of disgraceful examples.

Firstly; the night stalker Delroy Grant was found guilty of a number of burglaries and rapes, carried out on elderly men and women, all of whom were White, yet none of his crimes were treated as racially motivated.

Secondly the cases of a number of women arrested for alleged racially motivated public order offences. Jacqueline Woodhouse (a White lady) was sentenced to 21 weeks imprisonment over an incident on the Central Line. Emma West (a White Lady) is awaiting trial over an alleged incident on the Croydon Tram and has served a couple of weeks on remand and Vandell Brooks (a Black Lady) was sentenced to 1 week imprisonment and a £200 fine for an incident on a London Bus, at a secret trial that the police would not disclose the date of. Vandell had already failed to appear at a previous hearing. The Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Press all came down a lot harder on the White women than the Black woman. How do you justify this??????

Hogan-Howe refused to fully answer the question; on grounds that some of the cases are ongoing (in fact Emma West’s case is the only ongoing case that I mentioned)

He did say that ‘some cases need extra attention due to people being unable to speak English or having mental health issues, then he repeated the lie that “everyone is treated the same regardless of race”.

Yet another criminal let off

51-year-old Subhiraz Chandra Sohun has been let off with a suspended jail sentence after stealing £2,460 from a 57-year-old man he was being paid to look after.

Sohun, known as ‘Joe’, DoB 15/08/1961, was using his own address in Clensham Lane, Sutton, to look after the man as part of Sutton Council’s Shared Living Scheme, which places vulnerable adults in carers homes.

Sohun was responsible for the day-to-day care of the man who had Down’s syndrome and also advanced dementia. The care extended to managing the man’s bank account, card and PIN so money could be withdrawn to meet the man’s needs.

But between 27th March and 27th April 2012, Sohun stole £2,460 from his victim.

Police were alerted by Social Services after the victim’s sister became concerned about unexplained withdrawals from the man’s bank account.

Sohun told the council that the money had been used to pay for his wife’s trip to visit her sister in Mauritius. This money was paid back in two installments - one in June for £1,400 and another in July for £1,060.

The couple had been paid £2,500 per month to look after the victim over the last 13-14 months.

At Croydon Crown Court on 20th December, Sohun was sentenced to 12 months jail suspended for two years, 200 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £340 costs after pleading guilty to fraud by abuse of position.

Det Con Dan Hobbs, who led the investigation, said police will not tolerate abuse against elderly and vulnerable residents by people who are supposed to protect and look after them. “Perpetrators can expect to be caught and put before the courts,” he said

The Union Flag

After hearing the sad news the other week, that Belfast City Council has voted not to fly the Union Flag from Belfast City Hall for most of the year. I have started an e-petition on the government’s website, asking them to pass a law that the Union Flag must be flown from all government buildings all year round.

If 100,000 people sign the petition it could be debated in the House of Commons.

Croydon Libraries Internet policy

It was brought to my attention that during the recent Croydon North by-election, Croydon residents had tried and failed to gain access to the National Front website on Croydon Library computers.

On Friday 7^th December I went to my local library (Thornton Heath) to find out what websites were accessible.

 I have emailed Croydon Council to ask them to rectify the situation.

Hopefully there has been some mistake and not deliberate malice. I visit the National Front website regularly and have never seen any hate speech on there.

It is only fair that the people of Croydon have equal access to the websites of all legally registered political parties.

Croydon Council are blaming ‘the London Grid for Learning’ (LGfL) a charity that provides the internet for Croydon Libraries. I contacted LGfL and they claim their customers have the choice to pick and choose what sites they have access to.

On 28^th January I will question Croydon Council at a full council meeting.
